Overview
Dovers Green Primary School based in Surrey, focuses on creating a caring environment where children can grow in confidence and independence as they move forward on their learning journey. The school’s main message is that “we are all special and we are all different”.
Client Brief
After visiting the school and meeting with the SENCO, Lucy Williams and Headteacher, Nicki Starling, we worked together to create a clear plan for how the room would be set up and which products would be used. They wanted the space to be flexible and inclusive for all pupils, with a range of interactive switches and a system built to last as the needs of future cohorts change. The setup needed to offer both calming experiences and sensory stimulation, helping to support and engage the children in different ways.
Sensory Room Design
As the school had a generously sized room and wanted to use it with multiple children, we designed different zones so pupils could enjoy group sessions or spend time independently within the same space. We achieved this using our two waterless tubes — the Borealis and Snowstorm — positioned at opposite ends of the room. With the Apple TV and media projector, the school can easily theme the space and choose what to display, creating full flexibility. A large projected image was included to enhance the immersive effect, especially when paired with the mood lighting.
Additional features such as fibre optics, an infinity panel, tactile discs, and floor padding were added to create a comfortable and engaging environment, complete with a bench for structured seating.
Sensory Room Installation
The engineers worked efficiently to complete the project, allowing the school to start using the system right away. As the building was already open, they took great care to ensure as little disruption as possible. All controls were wired back to a central location, making it easy for staff to manage the system when entering the room. These were housed in a small, lockable cabinet to prevent children from accessing the supervisor controls — something the school has found very helpful. The children also have their own soft, safe interactive switches to operate different elements in the room.
Sensory Room Training
Before leaving, the engineers provided a full walkthrough of the system to ensure staff felt confident using it straight away. The controls are simple and user-friendly, with clear instructions placed next to the control cabinet for any new team members. The sound system is also easy to use, featuring a straightforward Bluetooth connection for playing any playlist.
Testimonial
This was a wonderful sensory room project, featuring a wide range of interactive switches that give children control over multiple elements while still allowing for a calm, relaxing atmosphere when needed. The school was delighted with the outcome, and hearing Lucy’s feedback — along with everyone’s excitement about the new system — truly made the project worthwhile. We look forward to working with them again in their next project – a soft play room!
“We are absolutely thrilled with the sensory room. Thank you so much for making this process so smooth and straight forward for us. The equipment is all working perfectly and the controls are very easy to use. We absolutely love the control box, this was essential for us so that we can prevent children accessing it for safety. No other company could offer us this detail. On Monday just gone the children started using the building and I can safely say that the sensory room -which the children have named 'The Rainbow Room' was extremely well received! It was absolutely magical and emotional for us to see the children walk in and react with such delight, excitement and for our pre/non-verbal children their facial expressions and noticeable relaxation in their bodies said it all for us. They were all so very happy we couldn't ask for more. The staff and parents also love it and even followed the number one 'no shoes' rule when they had a tour! Our children have been making excellent use of it so far and I know this will continue on a daily basis as an integral part of our centre. We feel so lucky and privileged to have such a high spec perfectly purposed room designed so beautifully for our high needs children who will benefit from the regulation and appropriate stimulation they require and thrive with. Thank you so much! We could not be happier!”
